Stains on AMC cookware

Occasionally marks or stains may appear on your AMC cookware and you may wonder why. Is it a fault with the product or is it normal? Some of these stains are actually common reactions that different foods have with stainless steel, and others are as a result of misuse. We can assure you though that these stains do not affect the performance of your cookware.

rainbow stains on AMC cookware

Rainbow coloured or white cloudy stains

These stains may appear on the inside of your cookware when certain foods, specifically starchy foods, have been cooked. This is a normal reaction that starch has on stainless steel. To remove these stains, simply pour a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar in the cookware once washed. Swirl around or wipe with a paper towel then rinse and dry.

Staw coloured stain on AMC cookware

Golden or straw coloured stains

These stains appear if your cookware has been overheated. These can be difficult to remove. However sometimes all they require is that you use AMC Classic Cleaner or a non-abrasive cleaning paste and a soft sponge. Try to avoid scratching the stainless steel and don’t use steel wool when attempting to remove the stain if you want to maintain the high polish and shine of your cookware.

Black stains on the base of AMC cookware

Black or dark stains on the base of your cookware

This indicates that your cookware has been used over too high a temperature or on a dirty stove plate. It could also mean that there was a fatty residue on the base of your cookware that has been heated. Continual use under these conditions will cause a slightly sticky layer to form on the base and it is very difficult to remove. You can try removing this with Classic Cleaner, alternatively you can send your cookware for repolishing.

small holes in AMC cookware

Small holes or pit marks

Tiny indentations, called pitting, may appear on the inside surface of your cookware when harsh chemicals are used to clean your cookware or when food high in salt and acid is stored in the cookware. This is not a defect and is not covered by the lifetime guarantee. It is important to never store food in your AMC and wash it as soon as possible after cooking. You can continue to use your cookware as normal. We are unable to remove pit marks, and having your cookware repolished can make them more visible.

Complete discolouration of AMC cookware

Complete discolouration of cookware

Please note that extended use of our Gourmet range of cookware (with stainless steel handles) in the oven, can lead to a slight discolouration of the stainless steel as a result of being exposed to the high, dry temperatures of the oven.

Some of the above stains can be easily removed but if you want your cookware to look brand new again, it can be repolished for a small fee. You can find more details about our repolishing service here.  Please also feel free to contact our Customer Service Dept on 086 1111 262 or email them on info@amcsa.co.za should you require any further assistance.
